Si la Cin\u00e9math\u00e8que s\u2019\u00e9tait d\u00e9j\u00e0 pli\u00e9e \u00e0 l\u2019exercice en 2018, peut-\u00eatre faut-il rappeler qu\u2019avant l\u2019aur\u00e9ole du titre de meilleur \ufb01lm de tous les temps d\u00e9cern\u00e9 en 2022 \u00e0 <em>Jeanne Dielman, 23, quai du commerce, 1080 Bruxelles<\/em> par <em>Sight and Sound<\/em>, \u00e9quivalent de nos <em>Cahiers du cin\u00e9ma<\/em> en Angleterre<sup data-fn=\"de99d05b-e8a7-4ff2-8c6d-ee2f15aa4a4d\" class=\"fn\"><a id=\"de99d05b-e8a7-4ff2-8c6d-ee2f15aa4a4d-link\" href=\"#de99d05b-e8a7-4ff2-8c6d-ee2f15aa4a4d\">1<\/a><\/sup>, l\u2019\u0153uvre de Chantal Akerman demeurait assez peu connue, et cela m\u00eame de certains cin\u00e9philes, voire compl\u00e8tement ignor\u00e9e du grand public, faute de projections r\u00e9guli\u00e8res en France. Car la Nouvelle vague a ses t\u00eates d\u2019a\ufb00iche, et que les femmes en sont si facilement \u00e9cart\u00e9es lorsqu\u2019elles ne jouent pas les actrices, Chantal Akerman est longtemps rest\u00e9e une r\u00e9f\u00e9rence respect\u00e9e par les<em> happy few<\/em>, sans qu\u2019elle ne parvienne \u00e0 se hausser au degr\u00e9 de notori\u00e9t\u00e9 d\u2019une Varda, d\u2019un Pialat ou plus tard d\u2019un Haneke, dont le cin\u00e9ma est pourtant si fortement impr\u00e9gn\u00e9 de celui de la r\u00e9alisatrice belge, nous y reviendrons. On ne saurait donc rendre compte de notre joie quand seize long-m\u00e9trages de la cin\u00e9aste ont \ufb01nalement \u00e9t\u00e9 programm\u00e9s et que les s\u00e9ances ont fait salle comble. Si <em>Les Rendez-vous d\u2019Anna<\/em> n\u2019est pas consid\u00e9r\u00e9 comme le chef d\u2019\u0153uvre d\u2019Akerman, dont <em>Jeanne Dielman<\/em> tend d\u00e9sormais in\u00e9vitablement \u00e0 \u00eatre consid\u00e9r\u00e9 comme son <em>magnum opus<\/em>, on ne saurait faire l\u2019impasse sur ce \ufb01lm, tant il d\u00e9ploie une corpor\u00e9it\u00e9 tant\u00f4t guind\u00e9e, tant\u00f4t hant\u00e9e par la solitude, tant la parole discursive n\u2019y cesse de se d\u00e9velopper et de s\u2019\u00e9tirer sans parvenir \u00e0 la  transitivit\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Qui \u00eates-vous Anna Silver\u00a0?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sans <span class=\"_ pg-1_1\"> <\/span>do<span class=\"_ pg-1_3\"><\/span>ute <span class=\"_ pg-1_1\"> <em>Les <span class=\"_ pg-1_8\"> <\/span>Rendez-vous <span class=\"_ pg-1_1\"> <\/span>d\u2019Anna<\/em><\/span> <span class=\"_ pg-1_8\"> <\/span>s\u2019inscrit-il <span class=\"_ pg-1_8\"> <\/span>pleinement <span class=\"_ pg-1_1\"> <\/span>dans <span class=\"_ pg-1_8\"> <\/span>le <span class=\"_ pg-1_1\"> <\/span>style <span class=\"_ pg-1_8\"> <\/span>akermien <span class=\"pg-1ls3\">: <span class=\"_ pg-1_1\"> <\/span>Anna <\/span>Silver, <span class=\"_ pg-1_4\"><\/span>jou\u00e9e <span class=\"_ pg-1_7\"><\/span>par <span class=\"_ pg-1_4\"><\/span>l\u2019actrice <span class=\"_ pg-1_7\"><\/span>Aurore <span class=\"_ pg-1_4\"><\/span>Cl\u00e9ment, <span class=\"_ pg-1_4\"><\/span><span class=\"pg-1ls1\">est <span class=\"_ pg-1_7\"><\/span>une <span class=\"_ pg-1_7\"><\/span><\/span>r\u00e9alisatrice <span class=\"_ pg-1_4\"><\/span>qui <span class=\"_ pg-1_4\"><\/span>conna\u00eet <span class=\"_ pg-1_7\"><\/span>le <span class=\"_ pg-1_4\"><\/span>succ\u00e8s. <span class=\"_ pg-1_7\"><\/span>Elle <span class=\"_ pg-1_4\"><\/span><span class=\"pg-1ls3\">voyage <\/span>seule <span class=\"_ pg-1_5\"><\/span>da<span class=\"_ pg-1_3\"><\/span>ns <span class=\"_ pg-1_5\"><\/span>toute l\u2019Europe <span class=\"_ pg-1_5\"><\/span>pour promouvoir <span class=\"_ pg-1_5\"><\/span>un <span class=\"_ pg-1_2\"><\/span>\ufb01lm, <span class=\"_ pg-1_5\"><\/span>dont on <span class=\"_ pg-1_5\"><\/span>ne <span class=\"_ pg-1_2\"><\/span>conna\u00eet <span class=\"_ pg-1_5\"><\/span>ni le <span class=\"_ pg-1_5\"><\/span>titre <span class=\"_ pg-1_2\"><\/span>ni <span class=\"_ pg-1_2\"><\/span>la <span class=\"_ pg-1_5\"><\/span>trame. Nous suivons <span class=\"_ pg-1_3\"><\/span>cette <span class=\"_ pg-1_6\"><\/span>femme, <span class=\"_ pg-1_3\"><\/span>son <span class=\"_ pg-1_6\"><\/span>\u00e9ternelle <span class=\"_ pg-1_6\"><\/span>jupe <span class=\"_ pg-1_3\"><\/span>droite, <span class=\"_ pg-1_6\"><\/span>sa <span class=\"_ pg-1_6\"><\/span>veste <span class=\"_ pg-1_3\"><\/span>en <span class=\"_ pg-1_6\"><\/span>velours <span class=\"_ pg-1_3\"><\/span>fatigu\u00e9 <span class=\"_ pg-1_6\"><\/span>et <span class=\"_ pg-1_6\"><\/span>son <span class=\"_ pg-1_3\"><\/span>pull <span class=\"_ pg-1_6\"><\/span><span class=\"pg-1ls4\">grenat<\/span>, <span class=\"_ pg-1_3\"><\/span>lors de <span class=\"_ pg-1_6\"><\/span>ses <span class=\"_ pg-1_6\"><\/span>p\u00e9r\u00e9grinations, <span class=\"_ pg-1_6\"><\/span>le <span class=\"_ pg-1_6\"><\/span>costume est <span class=\"_ pg-1_9\"> <\/span>si <span class=\"_ pg-1_9\"> <\/span>essentiel <span class=\"_ pg-1_9\"> <\/span>\u00e0 <span class=\"_ pg-1_9\"> <\/span>la <span class=\"_ pg-1_9\"> <\/span>caract\u00e9risation <span class=\"_ pg-1_9\"> <\/span>du <span class=\"_ pg-1_9\"> <\/span>personnage, <span class=\"_ pg-1_9\"> pg-1_5\"><\/span>minimaliste, <span class=\"_ pg-1_2\"><\/span>dont <span class=\"_ pg-1_5\"><\/span>l\u2019\u00e9conomie de moyen <span class=\"_ pg-1_3\"><\/span>vise <span class=\"_ pg-1_3\"><\/span>\u00e0 mettre <span class=\"_ pg-1_3\"><\/span>en <span class=\"_ pg-1_3\"><\/span>valeur <span class=\"_ pg-1_3\"><\/span>la pr\u00e9sence <span class=\"_ pg-1_3\"><\/span>de <span class=\"_ pg-1_3\"><\/span>la <span class=\"_ pg-1_3\"><\/span>jeune r\u00e9alisatrice <span class=\"_ pg-1_3\"><\/span>\u00e0 <span class=\"_ pg-1_3\"><\/span>chaque plan. <span class=\"_ pg-1_3\"><\/span>C\u2019est <span class=\"_ pg-1_3\"><\/span>ainsi <span class=\"_ pg-1_3\"><\/span>que nous <span class=\"_ pg-1_2\"><\/span>parvenons <span class=\"_ pg-1_2\"><\/span>\u00e0 <span class=\"_ pg-1_2\"><\/span>un <span class=\"_ pg-1_2\"><\/span>paradoxal <span class=\"_ pg-1_2\"><\/span>constat. <span class=\"_ pg-1_2\"><\/span>Tout <span class=\"_ pg-1_2\"><\/span>se <span class=\"_ pg-1_2\"><\/span>passe <span class=\"_ pg-1_2\"><\/span>comme <span class=\"_ pg-1_2\"><\/span>si <span class=\"_ pg-1_2\"><\/span>le <span class=\"_ pg-1_5\"><\/span>\ufb01lm entier <span class=\"_ pg-1_2\"><\/span>\u00e9tait <span class=\"_ pg-1_2\"><\/span>tourn\u00e9 <span class=\"_ pg-1_2\"><\/span>du <span class=\"_ pg-1_2\"><\/span>point de <span class=\"_ pg-1_3\"><\/span>vue <span class=\"_ pg-1_3\"><\/span>interne <span class=\"_ pg-1_6\"><\/span>d\u2019Anna, <span class=\"_ pg-1_3\"><\/span>mais <span class=\"_ pg-1_6\"><\/span><span class=\"pg-1ls3\">que <span class=\"_ pg-1_3\"><\/span><\/span>son <span class=\"_ pg-1_6\"><\/span>regard <span class=\"_ pg-1_3\"><\/span>sur <span class=\"_ pg-1_3\"><\/span>le <span class=\"_ pg-1_6\"><\/span>monde, <span class=\"_ pg-1_3\"><\/span>ses <span class=\"_ pg-1_6\"><\/span>jugements, <span class=\"_ pg-1_3\"><\/span>ses <span class=\"_ pg-1_3\"><\/span>go\u00fbts, <span class=\"_ pg-1_6\"><\/span>les <span class=\"_ pg-1_3\"><\/span>motifs <span class=\"_ pg-1_3\"><\/span>de ses peines et de ses joies nous demeuraient inco<span class=\"pg-1ls2\">nnus<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n<div 819px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Plus qu\u2019accompagner le personnage d\u2019Anna dans son p\u00e9riple morose au nord de l\u2019Europe, la cam\u00e9ra d\u2019Akerman semble faire une avec ce grand corps mince, qui domine l\u2019image, attire le regard des unes et des autres, sans jamais vraiment d\u00e9voiler son int\u00e9riorit\u00e9. Anna nous appara\u00eet parfois comme morte, le teint cadav\u00e9rique et les yeux larmoyants et sans vie, \u00e0 la faveur d\u2019un travail particuli\u00e8rement r\u00e9ussi de la lumi\u00e8re qui lie les tons gris\u00e2tres et verd\u00e2tres \u00e0 l\u2019impersonnalit\u00e9 des h\u00f4tels de passage et des gares en plein hiver. Le corps de la jeune femme semble alors s\u2019inscrire dans la continuit\u00e9 gla\u00e7ante des lieux qu\u2019il traverse \u2013 dans une esth\u00e9tique qui pr\u00e9\ufb01gure la premi\u00e8re p\u00e9riode allemande de l\u2019\u0153uvre de Haneke \u2013 et les rencontres avec des personnages d\u00e9sesp\u00e9r\u00e9ment en qu\u00eate de son a\ufb00ection restent alors \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9tat de lettres mortes, tant Anna, sorte de spectre aux yeux bleus \u00e9teints, ne peut r\u00e9pondre aux d\u00e9sirs d\u2019une ancienne belle-m\u00e8re qui la prie d\u2019en\ufb01n \u00e9pouser son \ufb01ls, \u00e0 ceux d\u2019un instituteur rencontr\u00e9 en Allemagne qui veut voir en elle l\u2019incarnation de la femme qui \ufb01gurera pour sa petite \ufb01lle une m\u00e8re de substitution, ou encore aux d\u00e9clarations d\u2019un amant maniaco-d\u00e9pressif qui croit ne vouloir qu\u2019\u00eatre aim\u00e9 d\u2019elle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Un costume de femme mal taill\u00e9<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Deux sc\u00e8nes charni\u00e8res permettent peu \u00e0 peu de comprendre Anna et le caract\u00e8re impalpable et ine\ufb00able de la trag\u00e9die qui semble \u00eatre en train de se jouer, sans que jamais aucun signe, sans m\u00eame parler de discours, ne vienne garantir quoi que ce soit, car le cin\u00e9ma d\u2019Akerman n\u2019est gu\u00e8re didactique, et qu\u2019il pourrait peut-\u00eatre se r\u00e9sumer grossi\u00e8rement \u00e0 une forme de pr\u00e9sence brute o\u00f9 ce qui est absent est sans cesse \u00e0 interroger et o\u00f9 la coop\u00e9ration de la spectatrice et du spectateur est une condition non n\u00e9gociable \u00e0 l\u2019av\u00e8nement du sens de l\u2019\u0153uvre, inexorablement ouverte. Ce sont deux sc\u00e8nes de chambre. Si ces sc\u00e8nes sont omnipr\u00e9sentes dans le \ufb01lm, elles se r\u00e9sument principalement \u00e0 des moments de g\u00eane, d\u2019attente, de d\u00e9sir impossible \u00e0 satisfaire, de corps incapables de s\u2019entendre, de solitude en somme. Or, Anna fait escale en gare de Bruxelles-Midi \u00e0 un moment de son voyage retour vers Paris et revoit sa m\u00e8re apr\u00e8s trois ans d\u2019absence. Cette rencontre vient \u00e9clairer toutes les autres tant Anna, contrairement \u00e0 ce dont elle nous avait habitu\u00e9.es jusqu\u2019ici, fait preuve d\u2019une prolixit\u00e9 surprenante. Les rapports ici s\u2019inversent et Anna n\u2019est plus la spectatrice distante de l\u2019existence des autres mais occupe l\u2019espace de la communication, et non plus uniquement celui du plan, tout en portant un regard que nous ne lui connaissions pas sur son interlocutrice. La m\u00e8re devient alors un objet de d\u00e9sir et la vie semble \u00eatre revenue, du moins pour quelques minutes partag\u00e9es sur le quai d\u2019une gare, dans une brasserie d\u00e9sert\u00e9e et dans un h\u00f4tel de quartier. C\u2019est alors que l\u2019atmosph\u00e8re change du tout au tout et qu\u2019on peut na\u00efvement croire \u00e0 une \ufb01n heureuse : la jeune trentenaire \u00e9trang\u00e8re au monde et \u00e0 elle-m\u00eame pourrait-elle en\ufb01n gu\u00e9rir dans les bras de sa m\u00e8re, venue la consoler de sa solitude, entourant le corps nu de sa \ufb01lle redevenue une enfant \u00e0 bercer et \u00e0 rassurer ? Chantal Akerman ne nous accorde pas ce genre de faveur facilitante qui d\u00e9complexi\ufb01erait le r\u00e9el, loin s\u2019en faut ; si la \ufb01lle aime la m\u00e8re, et si elle tente aupr\u00e8s d\u2019elle d\u2019en\ufb01n retrouver go\u00fbt \u00e0 la parole et \u00e0 sa dimension transitive, la m\u00e8re est incapable d\u2019accepter un tel don. Elle re\u00e7oit les paroles de sa \ufb01lle sans mot dire et apprend son homosexualit\u00e9 le visage ferm\u00e9, non par la honte semble-t-il, mais par le silence dont elle ne saurait se d\u00e9partir. On voit alors que le mal \u00e0 l\u2019\u0153uvre est un mal de non-dits. C\u2019est la crise du langage qui isole les personnages dans leurs n\u00e9vroses et leurs \u00e9nigmes respectives : l\u2019Allemagne pour la m\u00e8re, dont elle ne saurait \u00e9voquer le souvenir malgr\u00e9 les interrogations de sa \ufb01lle et dont on devine l\u2019association \u00e0 la Shoah, et la f\u00e9minit\u00e9 et toutes les injonctions qui lui sont associ\u00e9 pour Anna. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>S\u2019\u00e9manciper des sch\u00e9mas de genre et de l\u2019organisation h\u00e9t\u00e9ronorm\u00e9e de ce qui touche au f\u00e9minin est alors repr\u00e9sent\u00e9 en un parcours particuli\u00e8rement douloureux et solitaire. La derni\u00e8re sc\u00e8ne du \ufb01lm, qui fait donc \u00e9cho \u00e0 celle pr\u00e9c\u00e9demment \u00e9voqu\u00e9e, pr\u00e9sente Anna a\ufb00al\u00e9e sur son lit, dans le m\u00eame tailleur fatigu\u00e9, en\ufb01n rentr\u00e9e \u00e0 Paris, plus seule que jamais dans l\u2019obscurit\u00e9 de sa chambre. La m\u00e8re, qui l\u2019entourait de ses bras plus t\u00f4t, est alors rel\u00e9gu\u00e9e en un lointain souvenir, peut-\u00eatre m\u00eame n&rsquo;aura-t-elle \u00e9t\u00e9 qu\u2019une apparition fortuite. Anna \u00e9coute et e\ufb00ace fr\u00e9n\u00e9tiquement les messages re\u00e7us sur son r\u00e9pondeur pendant ses absences r\u00e9p\u00e9t\u00e9es. Ces voix qui s\u2019\u00e9l\u00e8vent dans son appartement vide sont autant de liens qu\u2019elle est incapable de perp\u00e9tuer et de pr\u00e9server, tant qu\u2019elle n\u2019aura pas r\u00e9ussi \u00e0 revenir, en\ufb01n elle-m\u00eame, parmi les vivants. Son producteur lui fait alors savoir qu\u2019elle devra retourner le lendemain en Suisse pour pr\u00e9senter son \ufb01lm.
